Another colorful novel of intrigue from accomplished Spanish author Perez-Reverte (The Seville Communion, , etc.). The setting is Madrid in a time of political unrest as self-indulgent Queen Isabelle II's hold on the throne grows shaky and numerous anti-royalist and revolutionary groups jostle for advantage. At the same time, tradition reposes serenely in the virtually cloistered. "The Fencing Master", a short story by Dave Gross, was released as Pathfinder Tales web fiction in September The story provides a glimpse of Count Varian Jeggare's past in the city of (s): Dave Gross.

The denouement of this book is outstanding, as Don Jaime must rely on all of his emotional and physical resources to oppose the forces of evil that are closing in on him. The Fencing Master is a tour de force that left me breathless with admiration. Amazon readers rating: from 85 reviews; Read the first chapter of The Fencing Master at the. "The Fencing Master" by Arturo Perez-Reverte is a throwback to another time in fact, even within the time setting of the story, the protagonist (a fencing master, go figure) is a throwback to another time, an era of pure honor and purer scruples.

Of course, such an era has never existed, /5. The book is in fact a travelogue in 's Russia, and quite good at that despite the misleading title. It contains many interesting details of life in Russia at that time, particularly in St.
